The Decay In Nigeria
With the recent happenings in River State House of Assembly, it has become clear that the rot in Nigeria society has dug deep into fabric of the society. In a country where five lawmakers can openly carry out illegal impeachment of the leader of the house without fear or shame of the repercussion of their action, where lawmaker will engage in physical combat with his fellow lawmakers and where the police who are suppose to maintain the peace and remain unbiased are seen to pick up side. In the whole fracas, it is hard to justify any party but you just have to choose from the lesser evil. So on this basis I will like to fault the five lawmakers that provoke this outrage, cause their action is very undemocratic and for them to take such bold step, they must have been backed by higher authority, and such authority view the common Nigeria as ignorant and incapable to decipher when their democratic right is being breached, which can be seen from the action of the lawmakers. I was more intrigue by the inaction of the citizen of the state as well as Nigeria as a whole. As can been seen in Egypt, when they feel their democratic right was being breached, the people rally against the goverment. But in the case Nigeria, the citizen took refuge, afraid of what the goverment they elected will do to them.
And with this, we can understand why the five lawmaker did what they did without fear of the repercussion of their illegal act, because they have the backing of higher authority and with weakness of the Nigeria people in mind.
In a democratic society, the Nigeria public needs to learn how to express and let their voice be acknowledge if not we are going to be at the mercy of the few elected or choosen elite.
It is clear that we are viewed with no regards by this elite for them to take such shameless action not afraid of how they would look in the eyes of the public, because they believe their political future is not in the hand of the general public.True?
